It’s never been more important to Love Being Australian. Not because of one single day, but because of the people who make Australia what it is, every day. Across our communities are individuals who quietly give their time, energy and care to others, without expectation of recognition or reward.
The Local Aussie Legends campaign has been developed to celebrate those people. From volunteers and mentors to neighbours and community leaders, these are the Australians who embody mateship, generosity and resilience through action. They remind us that community strength is built every day, often out of sight.
This Australia Day, we’re inviting you to be part of that recognition and create a positive, inclusive way to come together, show appreciation, and take pride in the values that unite us.
Nominate a local legend for Midland Gate’s Aussie Legend Awards. There are two categories – Aussie Spirit and Aussie Volunteer.
The winner for each category will receive:
– $1,000 Centre Gift Card and
– $1,000 Centre Gift Card donation to a registered charity of their choice.

General Conditions of Entry
1. Nominations open Thursday 1 January 2026 and close 12noon on Friday 16 January 2026.
2. Finalists and voting will be promoted on the Centre’s Facebook page.
3. Nominees must be a resident of the Midland Region at the time of nomination.
4. Nominees must be aged 16 years and older at the time of nomination.
5. Self-nominations will not be accepted.
6. All nominees will be considered for the national award, Fawkner Aussie Legend.
7. Winner for the national award will be chosen by a representative of Fawkner Property.
8. Unsuccessful nominees may be re-nominated in subsequent years.
9. Individuals can be nominated in only one local government area, for example, a person who has recently moved will be eligible for consideration in only one location.
10. Selection panel may choose to contact the nominee for further clarification if required.
11. Local Aussie Legends campaign has been designed to recognise individuals who positively impact people and communities.
12. Contact details of the nominators / nominees, may be forwarded to local media.
